Ten Days Later

by Stephanie Alfaia

Perhaps you decided to test my mother’s
Theory
Ten days to rid a bad habit
Ten days to forgive and forget
Ten days to heal
Ten days to fall out of lust
Ten days.
Or maybe I am overthinking thoughts
Creating stories
Bending reasons
Illusioned delusion
Misunderstood perception
Even in an encounter brewed
In frank conversation.
I am surprised.
It surprises me that I thought
This would be any different
That you would be any
Different
Than raw material for my
Poems
But a girl can hope
Ten days later I still do
