On meows, growls and laughter

by Stephanie Alfaia

The muscles on my face
grew tight with hurting,
laughter ripping through
my cheeks.
A low growl in his ear
like an animal prowling
with heightened instincts,
and my throat grew dry
when he stared into my eyes;
Because words were
useless in expression.

You must resist the urge
to have his hand gripping

tight
in your hair.
You must atone the desire
to have his tongue
bathe
your lips and
drown
your mouth
breathless.

A path well traveled
filled with obstacles named kin
deep inside you cannot
overcome.
Yet the universe swirls,
it turns and
sways
and there you are,
arriving at the exact same time
in tune,
smiling,
elated,
nostalgic,
saudade.

How did we get here?
Comfort oozing as you lean closer.
Desire brewing with every memory we exchange.
Are we destined
to moments in eternity?
Seconds that become hours,
days that soon fade
until the universe repeats itself…
And together we live a world
filled with images
that alter as they remain
the same.
