Behold, a Strong Little Lamb

by Stephanie Alfaia
Dark pale eyes stared
blankly at an end she
expected long ago.
A half smile
kept tears at bay,
lashes blinking
animatedly at greeters,
slow and steady breathing
to ensure composure.
Poise, her hands crossed
gently over her legs.
Fingers tips quietly tapping
giving nothing away.
A wounded heart
hidden neatly behind
strength.
Her mother would be
so proud.
