Alice, help me out of here

by Stephanie Alfaia

I get lost in my mind.
Whisperings
in languages I do not understand
And I do want to
understand.
Say it out loud!
But thoughts prefer to scramble
And whirl until I find myself repeating the
same sentence over and over again.
A maze.
I fear
I will never make it out of here in one piece.
You see I lose myself
When I lose myself
In thoughts of you
In obsession
Conflict
Hopeless hope.
Books I vouched I would never revisit
Stories, histories, memories,
Illusions,
Delusions,
Strength draining from the corners
Of where happiness is trapped
Within anxiety.

Alice, where have you gone?
You have left me to fend for my thoughts.
This day-dream river is now a drought
And I cannot find my way
Out
Of muddy waters, confusion.
You have abandoned me when
I need you most.
