White Dress

by Stephanie Alfaia

She looked flustered and confused
When she walked in the house,
Lowering her eyes and
Quickening her pace as she made
For her bedroom door.

“Darling, what’s the matter?”
“Nothing.” She said, clawing away from
My curiosity.

“Well then, did you have a good time at Virginia’s?”
“Yes.”

I leaned in and hugged her, even though
I could tell she wanted to be as far away
From me as possible.
But I would not given up.
I looked long and hard at her little face…

“It’s just that I wish we had photos of
You and dad on your wedding day
Like they do.
What did your white dress look like?”
