When She Spoke, Confused I Listened…

by Stephanie Alfaia

And what of rainbows and butterflies?

Innocence and infinite skies?
Tales of endless journeys
To a place that grew distant
stepping closer, pure resistance.
Flickering lashes, one country to next
Running, hiding or was she seeking rest?
Old age creeping near
Independence, lack of fear.
Can do it all – feminist
But love lagged behind
“No need,” she said. “I’m fine.”
