What is in a Name?

by Stephanie Alfaia

I see Eve lost in the Garden of Eden
Her fingertips trailing pink Bromeliads
Her smile vivid under the golden sun,
Palms brushing her left cheek…

She sees an animal on its
Hands and knees
Colored yellow, white and black
Pausing to call him
Jaguar
A Kaleidoscope flies past her
Afraid, she yells
Butterflies!
When her world is silent
She meets a sly furred orange
Sweetly whispering
Fox
As she kisses his nose

Hours passed and Eve was pleased.
She had met and named
Birds and bees
But in her daze
I could not help but wonder
If she quietly begged them,
Please name me,
Name me.
