The Journey and Her IV

by Stephanie Alfaia

Red as the color

In a box reflecting the
Rainbow
A child’s little fingers
Selects red to fill in borders
Of hearts
Red as the color
For passion, for love
Moments of intensity
Other meanings forgotten
Red as the color
For life, through fire
Creating heat for survival
Red as the color
For anger, and rage
Seeing nothing but red
And what of red
As the color of death
Blood dripping as life
Slips away
Slowly
Inevitably
How do you draw death?
