Gone with the Wind

by Stephanie Alfaia

Scarlet O’Hara,
You remind me more of myself
Than I have ever been –
Selfish,
Curious,
Impatient,
Energetic,
Melancholic,
Humble mornings,
Narcissistic some nights.

He walks away and I feel relieved.
He walks in and my heart skips a beat.

Ashley Wilkes,
I have convinced myself you are
The epitome of a life fulfilled
But here I find myself shedding tears for
Rhett.
The other, the wrong, the intolerable
And my insanity draws me back
To the alcohol
Swirling in my stomach.
Swimming in my head…
Making my eyes glow,
Making me second guess
Every decision
I have ever made.
