First I saw her walk away
head held high, kicking roses,
whispering “dreamers often lie…”
into Queen Mab’s left ear
while the winds wondered why
they could not hear her heart beat.
No. First, I thought to myself,
“sometimes, when the universe
is bursting into flames with chaos –
like a crackling summer bonfire;
we have no choice except to hold
our hand above the blaze and
fall in love with it’s warmth.”
No, no. First, she lit a cigarette,
teardrops cascading and
clinging to her blushing cheeks
after the corners of her lips
somehow found the strength
to stretch into a smile.
