She traded dolls for the moon,
the ambitious little girl
able to grasp it with her tiny hands
and nestle it deep in her chest.
She let it spin and reflect the sun
into anyone who came close enough.
Nothing made her happier than
stretching cheeks into smiles.
Imagine the presence of a moon-clad child:
ground-breaking gravity, all-consuming tides.
How do you capture a natural satellite?
You incorporate a Samudra.
She felt the entire ocean invade the room.
A gathering together of waters, oceans and seas.
Her limbs stood motionless amongst the cool waves, like
a barricade that welcomed a ripple carried in by Iemanjá herself.
“A moment like this should be stretched into a horizon,” she told her trembling knees. “Let certainty brew out of intoxication, even though I’m already drunk in his sense of infinity.”
Eager eyes always find what they are looking for
but she did not need to search at all.
You see, his grandeur can be seen from space.
There he was, pulling her hair into the stars.
A presence of kings, vast enough to spark a new universe
Her very own black hole,
Her very own galaxy,
Ocean eyes, incorporating oceans –
his eyes were no stranger.
She took a rack and dug deep into her memories,
familiar as he was to her,
she scraped around for a reason to approach him.
Little did she know he was pieces of lifetimes
the universe wrapped chaotically into a yellow bow.
She knew exactly who he was without knowing anything about him
and it all made complete sense.
