Damned Folks, Them All

by Stephanie Alfaia

Define good.
– Nice.
– Right.
– Sane.
But only while you have me
In sight
I’d like to read your eyes
When words roll
Off your tongue…

You see,
Some people never go crazy.
How truly terrible?
How purposeless a life
Without intensity.
Damned folks, them all
Who choose proper.

Define proper.
– Nice
– Right
– Sane.
Your lips curl into
A smile
When I ask about your madness,
Yet you say its silence you love.
But I fear, you fear
Sharing too much

I find myself wondering
Who should I show them I am?
The good
– Nice
– Right
– Sane
Or the girl who prefers to feel alive
