Wishful Thinking

by Stephanie Alfaia
I wish plain and simple was enough
I wish my eyes didn’t spark at chaos
And asymmetrical feelings
I wish busy wasn’t safe
I wish healthy was delicious
I wish more was nauseating
Instead of invigorating
I wish you meant nothing at all
I could easily avoid the fall
I wish my poetry wasn’t written in pain
Dipping this blue pen into blood
Dripping from my heart’s cracked frame
I wish pragmatic was easy
I wish logic sounded clear
I wish reality fascinated my imagination
Rather than deeply instill fear
I stand beside an empty chair
In my neighborhood bank,
Blasting Antártica in my ears
Imagining our polarity
Sparkling borealis
I wish
